Arriving at Cheltenham Theory Test Centre

By public transport

You’ll find Cheltenham theory test centre located in the north-eastern end of town. This means that while it’s fairly centrally located, those planning to arrive by public transport may have to spend some time on their feet before reaching their destination.

If you plan to arrive by train, the closest station is Cheltenham Spa. Gear yourself up for a bit of a walk, as it will take just under 30 minutes to walk across town from here to the test centre. That being said, you could always catch a bus instead (or in addition to your journey by rail). The nearest bus stops to the test centre are Pitville Street and John Lewis. Your feet will thank you if you take this option because both are less than a minute’s stroll to the test centre!

By car

Some learners opt to get a ride to their theory test from a friend, family member or taxi driver. This can certainly make life easier. In this case, all you really need to keep in mind is that the test centre postcode is GL52 2LP. As with any lengthy drive, you might want to avoid rush hour, so plan ahead and book your test at a reasonable time.

The test centre itself is situated in a rather striking white concrete building with a red entrance, called The Coliseum. It’s very close to the A46, so keep your eyes peeled when you turn off here to enter central Cheltenham.

Parking

Parking at or near test centres isn’t always easy as on-site parking is very rarely provided. Though this is indeed the case with Cheltenham, you can find some affordable car parks nearby.

Anyone wishing to leave their car while you sit the theory test should head to the John Lewis car park (GL52 2RR). This is a 4-minute walk from the test centre and you’ll be charged £3.10 for 2 hours or parking. You can also try the Portland Street NCP car park (GL52 2NX). This one is 6 minutes away and charges a slightly cheaper £2.50 for 2 hours of parking.

Pass Rates by Year

We’ll kick this section off by reminding you that pass rates actually mean very little for individual learners. The theory test is the same wherever you take it and so how you do largely depends on how much you study beforehand.

That being said, Cheltenham theory test centre boasts some pretty impressive pass rates! They’re consistently a good few points over the national average. If you appreciate such stats, this is probably the test centre for you!
