Arriving at Stratford-upon-Avon Theory Test Centre

By public transport

To train or to bus? That is the question. Or, at least, that might be the question if no one is willing to drive you to your theory test! Luckily, Stratford-upon-Avon is easily accessible by public transport.

If you decide to head into town via rail, it should only take you around 13 minutes to walk from Stratford-upon-Avon train station to the test centre. A bus can get you even closer. Get off at the Mop bus stop on Guild Street and you’ll find yourself right outside the test centre entrance—couldn’t be easier!

For further details on the transport links in and around Stratford-upon-Avon, go to the Visit Stratford-upon-Avon website.

By car

Perhaps you don’t need to navigate public transport because you’re catching a lift to your theory test. In that case, whack CV37 6RP into a sat nav and hit the road! Hopefully, the technology can do all of the hard work for you.

If you do get a little lost, however, note that the test centre is in a large, brick building with a green door. This is only made slightly confusing by the fact that it also sits opposite a large, brick building with a green door! Once you locate these, look even closer for a blue and white sign labelled ‘Pearson’. This is your destination.

Parking

Sadly, the theory test centre does not provide any parking. Thankfully, though, you do have a few options in the surrounding area. The closest is the Red Lion car park (CV37 6YW) which charges £3 for 2 hours of parking. It’s only a 3-minute walk from the test centre, so very convenient if time is of the essence!

To shave a quid off your parking costs you could head to the Bridgeway car park (CV37 6YX), which is still only 6 minutes away. It also boasts more spaces, so you have a better chance of finding a free parking spot here. The math whizzes among you will already have worked out that it costs £2 to park for 2 hours here.

If you’re travelling into Stratford-upon-Avon from out of town to sit your theory test here, you might consider staying in a local hotel the night before. This should ensure that you get a good night’s sleep and avoid any travel hassle in the morning! Here are a few options in the local area:

Premier Inn Stratford-upon-Avon Central ★★★☆☆

The most convenient option has to be this branch of Premier Inn, which sits just 2 minutes around the corner from the test centre. There’ll be no excuses for being late for your test if you sleep here! Each room comes with free WiFi, air-con and a comfortable Hypnos bed. Ideal for a short stay!

The Arden Hotel ★★★★☆

6 minutes down the road and just opposite The Swan theatre, you’ll find this charming waterside boutique hotel. There are only 45 rooms available, so you might want to book early. If you’re lucky enough to find an availability that fits in with your test appointment, you sure have a treat in store! Rooms are beautifully decorated and come with the finest selection of facilities and amenities.

Hotel Indigo ★★★★☆

For a slightly more quirky (but no less stunning) accommodation option, check out Hotel Indigo. It’s another boutique offering, this time just a 5-minute walk from the test centre. Parts of the building date back to the 16th century and each room is individually decorated with a stylish, contemporary twist on this underlying historical theme. Expect spa-inspired bathrooms, luxury Egyptian cotton and gorgeous furnishings. Bliss!

Places to Celebrate

Fancy sticking around in Stratford once your theory test has wrapped up? We don’t blame you! This is a lovely town to explore. If food and drink are on the menu, be sure to check out one of the following places…

Old Thatch Tavern

Stratford has no shortage of great pubs, but you may as well start with the oldest one in town! The Old Thatch Tavern dates all the way back to 1470 and sits just 300 yards from Shakespeare’s birthplace. While you’re taking in all of that history, you could also consume some of the delicious home-cooked food or top-notch ales that are on offer here! The best news is that it’s just a 5-minute walk from the test centre.

The One Elm

Not willing to travel far for your refreshments? Better make it a trip to The One Elm, then, as it’s just 3 minutes down the street from the test centre. This recently refurbished pub is a delightful establishment in which to decompress and enjoy a pint. It has an open, airy feel whilst still retaining all the great features of a traditional watering hole. Grab a chair by the open fire or slide into a booth to enjoy some tasty food.

The Bear

Just 7 minutes down the road and across the river you’ll stumble upon yet another belting English pub. The Bear sits on the banks of the river Avon, so you can expect some great views and a relaxing atmosphere. They offer a simple but very well-executed menu of pub food, along with a rotating selection of 8 real ales. There’s also an extensive wine list for those who prefer grape over grain!
