Arriving at Leicester Theory Test Centre

By public transport

As this journey is all about working towards that driving licence, chances are that plenty of you will be getting to this test centre by public transport. The good news is (unlike with the test centre itself!) you do have some options to choose from here.

Arriving by rail is an excellent choice as the test centre sits a mere 11-minute walk from Leicester train station. Rather take the bus instead? Not a problem! The closest stop to the theory test centre is Pocklingtons Walk, which will leave you with just a 2-minute walk to make your destination—very convenient!

To gain a deeper understanding of the transport links serving Leicester, check out the Leicester City Council website.

By car

Those not willing to slum it on public transport can of course arrive at the test centre by car—just as long as someone else (who is fully qualified) is behind the wheel! Whether you taking an actual taxi, or the taxi of mum and dad, tap LE1 5AG into a sat nav to get going.

Parking

It’s very rare for theory test centres to provide onsite parking, and the Leicester centre does not buck this trend. There are, however, a couple of car parks within a short walk from the test centre. The best option would probably be Newarke Street, which costs just £2 for 2 hours, has over 400 spaces, and is a 3-minute stroll away from the test centre.

Pass Rates by Year

The pass rates at the Leicester theory test centre over the past few years do not paint a particularly positive picture. There’s a steady decline and it currently sits below the national average. Don’t let this put you off, though, as statistics like this are more for the DVSA to worry about.

Overall trends do not indicate how you as an individual learner are likely to do in your test. Our advice would be to focus on studying rather than the stats!

Guides and Tips

While the theory test is nothing to worry about, it does require you to get your head down and put some work in. You’d be surprised how many learners assume they can blag their way through and end up failing and having to fork out for another test! Don’t be like them.

Below we’ve listed a few really useful theory test resources that will help you study the relevant material and prepare for the big day.

Hotels

If you’re not from Leicester itself, but fancy taking your theory test here, it might be worth booking a room in a local hotel for the night before. That way you can cut down on travel time and ensure you’re well rested for when it really matters! Here are a few options:

Travelodge Leicester Central ★★☆☆☆

This Travelodge is just a 8-minute walk from where you’ll be taking your theory tests and offers all of the basics you need for a good night’s sleep. Comfy bed? Check! Onsite restaurant? Check! Discounted parking options nearby? Check! No need to break the bank—come here for a cheap and cheerful stay.

Ibis Leicester City Hotel ★★★☆☆

If that Travelodge sounded convenient, wait until you hear about the local Ibis! This hotel is situated just 15 minutes from the test centre and comes with a few extra amenities to make your night that little bit more enjoyable. No, they’re not handing out free puppies, but they do offer WiFi and your very own satellite TV. Wahey!

Mercure Leicester Grand Hotel ★★★★☆

Those with a taste for the finer things in life might prefer to spend their one night in Leicester at the Mercure Grand Hotel. Located in an impressive Grade II listed building, this accommodation will definitely not leave you wanting. Rooms are finished to a high standard, you can enjoy complimentary wifi for the duration of your stay and there’s even a Marco’s restaurant in the building. There’s no reason to leave the hotel (except for that pesky theory test)!

Places to Celebrate

Once the test is over there’s (probably) no need to rush off home. If you have some time to spare, it’s definitely worth checking out some of the local establishments to treat yourself to a post-theory test drink or snack. We’ve highlighted a few of our top choices below.

The Parcel Yard

This is the perfect option if you’re getting the train home after the test and fancy a quick celebratory (or commiseratory) drink. That’s because it’s located right next door to Leicester train station! Inside you’ll find friendly staff, a relaxing atmosphere and an extensive food and drink menu where you’re sure to find something to your liking. Go on, treat yourself!

The Distillery

Heading further into the city centre, you’ll find popular local haunt The Distillery. This place offers cocktails, sports channels, tasty bar food and all things required to leave you feeling chilled, full and satisfied. Make sure you check out their daily deals to get the most bang for your buck!

Firebug

Forget a quick post-test drink, if you’re up for a proper party, head over to Firebug on Millstone Lane. It’s a late night bar where you can expect to be treated to anything from a comedy show to a performance from a live band. Grab a drink, shake off the day and maybe even have a little boogie—you’ve earned it!
