Arriving at Blackpool Theory Test Centre

By public transport

There are 3 train stations located near the Blackpool theory test centre, though each are quite a distance if you’re heading across town on foot. The closest is Layton train station, which is a 34-minute walk away (or 7 minutes by taxi). Poulton-le-Fylde station is a slightly longer 42-minute walk away. If you’re arriving at Blackpool North Station we’d definitely recommend getting a taxi, as it’s just over an hour’s walk away from the test centre.

If you are arriving by rail and don’t want to fork out for a taxi, you always have the option of hopping on a bus. Hawking Place bus stop is a mere 2 minutes from the centre on foot. For more detailed information on local transport links, like timetables and ticket prices, head over to the Blackpool Transport website.

By car

Managed to secure yourself a lift to the test centre? Nice going! Just tell whoever’s driving to enter FY2 0JN into their satnav. You can access the technology park via Faraday Way road, which leads onto Hawking Place.

Parking

As with most theory test centres, this one does not provide on-site parking. If you’re lucky enough to nab one of the few spaces on the road nearby—well done! If you don’t, we’re afraid it’s not great news. The nearest car parks are free, but they are all a 45-minute walk away. You may be best off getting the bus after all! If you get dropped off and the person driving you needs somewhere to park, direct them to the Cottom Hall car park or Teanlowe car park. Both a free for 2 hours of parking, but a 45 and 52-minute walk away, respectively.

Pass Rates by Year

As you can see, the Blackpool test centre’s pass rates have been declining over the last few years (although in 2019-20 they have started to rise again). It’s highly unlikely that this has anything to do with the quality of the centre itself. In fact, it’s important not to take pass rates too seriously. Think about it—the theory test is the same wherever you take it. It just so happens that people, on average, haven’t done as well here in comparison to previous years. Bear in mind that 48.4% is still higher than the national average, so there’s really no reason to let these numbers concern you!

Those who do a lot of revision tend to be less nervous when test day arrives and come out with that all-important pass certificate. Need some help with the studying process? There are loads of revision aids you can try. We’ve listed a few of our favourites, below.
