Arriving at Weymouth Theory Test Centre

By public transport

We’re logical people here at PassMeFast, so let’s begin with how you’re actually going to get to the test centre. As you’re a learner, chances are you may be relying on public transport to get to your test appointment.

Those travelling by rail should note that Weymouth train station is a very handy 12-minute walk from the theory test centre. If even that’s not close enough for you, rely on a bus instead. Hopping off at the Town Bridge bus stop leaves you with a very easy 2-minute stroll to the test centre.

By car

Then again, perhaps you’re willing to pay for a taxi, or you’ve managed to persuade a friend to drive you to your test. If this is the case, tap DT4 8AA into a sat nav and head on off to Phoenix House.

The test centre is a plain white building located on a fairly small, nondescript street. There is a sign reading ‘Phoenix House’ in blue letters above the door, so keep your eyes peeled for this.

Parking

Theory test centres very rarely provide onsite parking, and Weymouth is no different. Before the person offering to drive you rescinds their invitation, though, point them in the direction of some very convenient options.

The St Nicholas Street car park (DT4 8AD), for example, is only 2 minutes from the test centre and charges a fairly affordable £2 for 2 hours of parking. Alternatively, if you’d like to be almost guaranteed a free space, head to the large Britannia Parking Multi Storey car park (DT4 8LY). It boasts 437 spaces, charges £2.80 for 2 hours of parking and is a 4-minute walk from Weymouth theory test centre.

Pass Rates by Year

Stats heads may be a little disappointed to see that the pass rate at this test centre has dropped in recent years. The good news is that they are now rising and the figures are still above the national average. The great news is that pass rates don’t really have any bearing on individual learners anyway! How you do on the day is all down to revision—the theory test is the same wherever you take it.

Guides and Tips

Yes, if you want to be sure of theory test success, you’re going to have to knuckle down and do some revision. For the multiple choice section you need to be pretty hot on your traffic signs and the Highway Code. As for the hazard perception test, we suggest you take a few practice tests until you get the hang of it.

Alexandra Hotel Weymouth ★★★☆☆

Even closer to the test centre, at a 4-minute walk, you’ll find this welcoming, family-run hotel. All rooms are ensuite and some even come with sea views, so pop a request in for this when you book if that tickles your fancy. The hotel also offers onsite parking—ideal if you’re travelling with someone who is driving you to your test!

No.98 Boutique Hotel ★★★★☆

If you fancy treating yourself, book a room at this stylish, boutique hotel. It’s only a 9-minute walk down the road from the theory test centre and provides the perfect setting for a luxury stay. Places to Celebrate

When you’re done with the theory test there’s no need to rush off home (unless there’s somewhere you actually have to be!). Why not stick around to enjoy the sights and sounds of Weymouth? We don’t think you’ll be disappointed! Here are a few places to check out:

The Ship Inn

Those who don’t have a lot of time can always nip around the corner for a swift pint at The Ship Inn. It’s a beautiful, harbourside pub serving up a great selection of drinks and some delicious dishes. The decor is both classy and cosy, providing the perfect environment in which to relax and unwind.

Rendezvous

An ever shorter distance away (a 1-minute walk, to be precise!) you’ll find the Rendezvous and Royal Oak. It’s an establishment with 3 different floors, each one suited to a different kind of punter. Will you be watching sport on the ground floor, enjoying some tasty grub on the main floor, or dancing your socks off on the top level? The choice is yours!

Passed your theory and ready to move on to the next stage of your driving journey? Wahey—well done you! Now it’s time to get behind the wheel and really work on those driving skills. Find a DVSA instructor in your local area and hit the road for some lessons. We also recommend booking your practical test nice and early, because wait times for these appointments can be much longer than those for the theory test. If you’re from Weymouth, Poole practical test centre is your closest option.

Still not passed your theory test? Not to worry—plenty of people don’t manage it on the first go. Book another test, do more revision and give it another shot. You’ll be pleased to know that it’s much easier the second time around, because you know exactly what to expect!
