What To Expect On The Day

After what probably seems like a lifetime, you’ve finally mastered the manoeuvres and no longer need your instructor to step in every five minutes. Way to go you! You’ve come a long way from where you started! All that’s standing in your way now is a forty minute driving test. Piece of cake!

Before you leave your home or workplace, check that you have your provisional. Examiners are required to check them before tests, so you won’t be able to proceed without it. You’ll also need to get to Livingston test centre 10 minutes before your test is due to start.

Your driving test will then consist of:

• An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
• Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
• Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Parallel parking
  • Bay parking
  • Pulling up on the right
• Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
