Just get onto the A4044, continue onto Bath Road and follow the road ahead until the turn onto Flowers Hill. Don’t start flapping if you’re not so centrally located. There are plenty of nearby A roads like the A37, A4174 and A31 which will make it a simple enough trip. Of course, if you haven’t made the journey to Brislington test centre before, you’ll want to use these directions with a sat nav to ensure you don’t take a wrong turn along the way!

A Bit More About Brislington

Your driving test will take you around Brislington test centre and its surrounding area. The examiner will make use of any local challenging road types, like the assortment of roundabouts on Bath Road A4 and the A4174, to test how ready you are to drive unsupervised. You’ll likely be taken close to the city centre, which means you’ll have to deal with a lot of stop-start traffic. (Make sure you’re comfortable with clutch control!) The examiner will also take you around an area like Clifton or Southville with plenty of residential roads—it’s here that you’ll have your skills tested against one of the manoeuvres, not to mention manoeuvring around parked vehicles whilst facing oncoming traffic.

Brislington Test Route

Been combing the Web for your Brislington test route? We hate to burst your bubble, but the DVSA stopped publishing its routes all the way back in 2010. They did so in order to stop learners from wasting their time memorising routes, instead of focusing on refining their driving skills. Your route doesn’t have to be a complete mystery, however. You can get a glimpse of what to expect by watching videos of Brislington test routes on YouTube, or by downloading our sample Brislington driving test routes. If that’s not enough to assuage your nerves, remember, if you’re taking lessons with an ADI, they’ll have you learning on the very same roads likely to feature on your route.

Brislington Test Pass Rates

Worried that you won’t pass the driving test? Well, you’re not alone. Most learners panic about the prospect of failure. It might cheer you up, then, to take a look at some driving test pass rates. For starters, if you’re a learner in the UK, you’ve got a 45.9% chance of passing your test. There are many factors that can affect this, however, including the area you live inyour age and your transmission.

If that’s not enough for you, we’ve also taken the time to compile Brislington’s pass rates from the last five years in the table below...

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
48.5% 47.3% 44.4% 43.3% 41.9%

Clearly it’s a bit of a mixed bag at Brislington test centre—with pass rates fluctuating above and below the current national average. Though you might think this gives you cause for concern, it really doesn’t. Brislington could have the highest pass rates in the UK and it still wouldn’t mean you’d definitely pass. So, stop thinking about stats. Instead, put all of your energy into sharpening your skills.

What If I Can’t Go To Brislington?

What To Expect On The Day

In what will likely seem like the blink of an eye, your driving lessons will be over and it will be time for you to put your money where your mouth is. As nerve-wracking as this might seem to you, just try to treat it like a driving lesson. It’s really no different from what you do with your instructor. So, keep a cool head and try to remember what you’ve covered in your lessons. That’s all the examiner’s looking for anyway!

When it comes to the day of your test, the first thing you need to do is check that you have your provisional. The examiner will ask to see this beforehand, so if you don’t have it, they’ll end the test and you won’t receive a refund. To ensure you have enough time to park up and meet the examiner, you’ll also need to get to Brislington test centre 10 minutes before your test is supposed to start.

Your practical will then follow this basic structure:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Eventually, your 40 minutes of torture will be at an end and you’ll be guided back to Brislington test centre. Though your nerves will probably still be shaky, the examiner will ask you to park up and turn off the ignition. After a few agonising minutes, you’ll eventually be given your result. Unless you’re a new member of the zero minors club, you’ll get a full breakdown of the faults you accumulated on a physical feedback sheet, or an email via the driving test app.

But What If I Fail?

If you’re at all like our other learners, you’ve probably spent some time mulling over worst case scenarios. Though it might seem like the end of the world at the time, failing your driving test really isn’t a big deal. After all, it’s pretty common amongst learners! Instead of taking a long break from driving, you should instead focus on improving upon the weaknesses mentioned in your feedback sheet. The best way to do this is by taking a refresher course with a DVSA-approved instructor.
