How has the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns affected learning to drive?

Learning to drive can be complicated at the best times, but the pandemic threw a big ol' spanner into the engine. Over a million tests were cancelled and the industry is still recovering from the backlog.

The good news is there’s no need to worry — PassMeFast is still your faster route to driving. With our network of experienced instructors and flexible course options, we’ll help you get behind the wheel sooner and keep your learning moving forward.

Our Courses

What is an intensive course?

Our intensive courses involve longer driving lessons, with each session lasting a minimum of two hours and a maximum of five hours. You’ll usually have lessons on several days a week, with our most intensive course structure involving lessons every day.

Want to take things slower? We can arrange a semi-intensive course for you, which is easier to fit around a busy schedule — an example of this would be taking two-hour sessions on a couple of evenings a week.

Don’t be put off if you don’t want to learn intensively — we’re fast but also flexible. We’ll help to arrange your course however you want it.

Which course should I choose?

We have 8 different courses to choose from. When choosing your course, be mindful of your current driving ability and the experience you’ll need to pass your test.

According to the DVSA, it takes an average of 45 hours of driving tuition to get up to passing standard. If you’re a complete beginner, we’d recommend taking one of our longest courses to ensure you’re prepared for the test. If you have more driving experience, a shorter course is likely to be more suitable.

And to give yourself extra peace of mind, you can add PassProtect to any course and get additional lesson support for your next attempts—helping you stay prepared and confident every step of the way.

Still not sure? Use our smart course recommender and we’ll help you find the perfect course.

What if I need to add more lessons to my driving course?

Yes, it’s absolutely fine to add more hours to your course if you need them.

To add extra hours to your course, please call us on 0333 123 4949.

What if I don't use up all of my course hours?

If you end up passing with fewer lessons than you booked, you can use these for further tuition (motorway tuition, for example). Unfortunately, as our courses are sold as a complete package, any unused hours are non-refundable.

What’s included in a PassMeFast course?

We provide everything you need to support your learning, including:

We offer a range of courses to suit all learners — from short refreshers for those with experience to more comprehensive options for beginners. Explore our courses for full details, or use our course recommender to find the best fit for you.

Do I need to save any hours from my course for the practical test?

Between 1–3 hours of your course will be reserved for your test. For example, our 48 hour course would usually include 45 hours of lessons, plus the time used for the practical test.

The amount of time needed depends on your location, course structure, and instructor. Your instructor will discuss this with you ahead of your test date.

I’m a nervous driver — is this course right for me?

Our experienced, DVSA-registered instructors’ friendly and patient approach to driving tuition will help you feel at ease behind the wheel.

Our courses are faster than the old way of learning to drive, but never rushed. Everybody learns differently, so you can take your course at a pace that works for you.

Your instructor will pay careful attention to your progress, providing the guidance you need to help you become a safe and confident driver. Don’t worry — you’re in good hands.

Can I choose the number of hours of lessons I take per day?

Our courses are flexible. Together with your instructor, you’re free to decide on a lesson plan that works for you, helping you to pass fast even on a busy schedule.

Do I have to do the course intensively?

No! Our courses are flexible and can be structured to suit your needs. Depending on your schedule and instructor’s availability, it’s possible to take as little as two hours of lessons per day, or as many as five hours.

Check out our guide to semi-intensive driving courses to learn more.

Am I guaranteed to pass?

We don’t offer ‘guaranteed pass’ courses. Instead, we focus on providing excellent tuition, structured lesson plans, and exceptional customer service to give you the best chance of success.

And if you want extra peace of mind, you can add PassProtect — giving you additional lesson support for your next attempts, so you stay prepared and confident every step of the way.

If things don’t go to plan, we can help you get back on track with a refresher course to support your next attempt. You’ll also benefit from familiarity with your instructor and local routes, helping you feel more comfortable behind the wheel.

With a pass rate significantly higher than the national average, plus thousands of successful learners, PassMeFast works!

Can I take my course in an automatic car?

Yes! You can do your course in either a manual or automatic car. Completion times will vary between transmission and your location.

Can I do my lessons on weekends only?

Yes! But please bear in mind that weekend lesson slots are always in high demand and get booked up much faster. If you need weekend lessons only, you should expect to wait longer to start your lessons. Usually, the more available you can be, the faster you can get your licence.

Do I need to visit the PassMeFast office to take my course?

Nope! The course will take place in your local area, and your instructor will usually pick you up and drop you off at home or work.

Do you do home pickups?

Yes! In most cases, our instructors will pick you up and drop you off at a location of your choice. There are a very small number of areas (like some London postcodes) where home pick ups aren’t practical. In these cases, your instructor will usually pick you up from a train/tube station to:

  • Avoid congestion charges and keep the cost of your lessons down
  • Avoid wasting time travelling to the test area
  • Avoid traffic and maximise your driving test

If your instructor isn’t able to start lessons from your chosen address, they’ll let you know. Give us a call if you have any questions regarding your pick-up address.

Can I be picked up from my workplace?

Usually, yes — you can do your entire course from your work. This may not be possible if your home and work are far apart because all instructors have specific areas that they cover.

When will my lessons start?

To help you get behind the wheel as quickly as possible, we design our courses around your availability and preferred schedule. Once agreed, we’ll match you with an instructor who fits your timing so you can get started without unnecessary delays.

Building your course this way means you can begin learning sooner and keep your progress consistent, helping you build confidence quickly as you go.

If you’re ready to get started, you can choose this option in your Student Portal or let us know by calling 0333 123 4949.

Pricing and Payments

How much does a PassMeFast course cost?

Our course prices vary by location, course length, vehicle transmission, and whether you choose to include a theory and/or practical test as part of your booking.

For full details about each of our nine courses, visit our prices page.

What is the 14-day cancellation period, and what does it mean to waive it?

When you buy anything online, you have 14 days to cancel and refund your order, no questions asked. This would mean we're unable to start work on booking your tests and arranging your course until this 14-day period has passed. To get you on the road ASAP, we ask you to waive this cancellation period so we can start work on your booking straight away. This doesn't affect the Money-Back Guarantee -- if we weren't able to arrange your course in line with our timescales, you'd still be able to get a full refund.

You can read more about the Money-Back Guarantee here.

How does your money-back guarantee work?

We always aim for the stars and want you to be perfectly happy with your course. If things don't go to plan and you want to cancel your course, we offer a full money-back guarantee. You'd be eligible for a refund in the rare case that:

  • 1. We're unable to book a theory test within 30 days of completing your additional details form. This is a form you'll be asked to complete after you've booked your course.
  • 2. We're unable to connect you with a driving instructor within a reasonable time for your lessons to be completed.

Any lesson hours or test fees already used are not eligible for refund in any of these cases.

How do I pay for my PassMeFast course?

You can pay for your PassMeFast course via:

  • Credit or debit card
  • Monthly instalments with Payl8r
  • Klarna Pay in 3 — an interest free option on purchases of up to £2,500

For more info on all the ways you can pay for your PassMeFast course, check out our Ways To Pay page.

PassMeFast don't accept payments in cash. All payments for your course are to be made directly to us; we will never ask you to pay your instructor in cash.

Can I pay in instalments?

We have a couple of options for you to PassFast but PaySlow!

If your payment is under £2,500 you can pay in 3 instalments with Klarna. If your payment is eligible for Klarna, then you’ll be given the option when you go to checkout on our website. Or you can split the cost of your course into a total of 12 instalments with our finance partner Payl8r. You’ll need to undergo a credit check to be approved for finance.

Want more info? You'll find it here on our PassMeFast PaySlow page.

Further information and Klarna’s user terms you can find here. General information on Klarna can be found here. Your personal data is handled in accordance with applicable data protection law and in accordance with the information in Klarna's privacy statement.

Klarna's Pay in 3 instalments credit agreements are not regulated by the FCA. Use of these and any missed payments may affect your ability to obtain credit from Klarna and other lenders. 18+, UK residents only. Subject to status. T&Cs apply.

Do I need to pay in full straight away?

Nope — we offer a few different payment options. For peace of mind, you can pay the full balance upfront, or use our finance partner PayL8r to pay in instalments (subject to credit approval).

We only require a £375 deposit to book a course, but you’ll need to pay the full remaining balance of your course within 7 days of an instructor being allocated. If your course is due to start sooner than that, your balance is due before those lessons begin.

Once your instructor is allocated, we’ll send you a link to make payment. If payment isn’t made within 7 days of being connected to an instructor, the course will be placed on hold and any tests booked will be postponed.

Do your prices include VAT?

Yes — the price you see on our website is the price you’ll pay. There are no extra fees added on when you book.

Are your prices all-inclusive?

Our prices include everything you need to go from provisional to pass, including VAT and admin fees. We can add additional items to your course if needed.

Can I buy a PassMeFast course as a gift?

Yes! If you'd like to purchase any of our courses as a gift, let our team know by calling 0333 123 4949. We'll send you a personalised gift certificate via email!

Your Theory Test

Can you book my theory test for me?

Yes! You can add a theory test to any course. We’ll use our fast-track system to secure a test at a time and location to suit you.

Do I need to pass my theory test before I can book a course?

No — you can book a PassMeFast course without having passed your theory. PassMeFast can book your theory for you as part of your course.

One thing to remember is that you must pass your theory test before you can book your practical test.

Do you offer theory test tuition?

We do! You can add PassMeTheory to your course, which is a one-hour online session with a theory expert. The session covers the most difficult areas of the theory test, where you'll be able to ask any questions and have access to some great resources after your session.

As well as that, our blog is full of useful tips to help you pass.

Can I change my theory test date after it’s been booked?

Yeah — we can change your theory test after we’ve booked it. There is an admin fee of £75 for us to fast-track your test again.

We also advise against changing your test where possible, because it will usually delay your course by a few weeks. But, if you’re happy to push things back a little, we’re more than happy to find you a new test.

What if I fail my theory test?

Don't panic if you fail your first theory, we’ll be able to book a new one for you. We’ll also fast-track it, meaning you’ll typically be able to sit it again within 4–6 weeks.

Our instructors

Who will I be learning with?

You’ll be connected to one of our ~8000 DVSA-registered instructors, and all of them:

  • are DVSA-registered, professional driving instructors
  • have passed rigorous standards checks with A or B grades
  • boast good driving test pass rates
  • are friendly, reliable, and local to your area!

So you always have the instructor’s full attention for the entirety of your course, you’ll always be taught on a one-on-one basis.

What kind of car will I be learning in?

Our instructors have a wide range of cars — diesel, petrol, Fords, Peugeots, green, red, you name it!

While we can’t guarantee a specific car for your course, all of our instructor’s vehicles have dual-controls and pass regular safety checks. The only big decision you need to make is whether you want a manual or auto course, we’ll do the rest and find a great match for you.

Existing Customers

When will my lessons start?

To help you get on the road as quickly as possible, we design our courses around your availability and preferred schedule. Once this is agreed, we’ll match you with an instructor who can get you started without unnecessary delays.

Building your course this way helps keep your lessons consistent and structured, so you can build confidence and progress efficiently as you learn.

Can I change my instructor?

In a small minority of cases, a learner may be assigned an instructor that isn't a good fit.

It doesn’t happen often, but we’ll work closely with the learner to find a suitable resolution, including the possibility of changing to a different instructor.

Can I take breaks during the course?

Definitely! You can arrange breaks by speaking to your instructor, and if a lesson is 3+ hours they’ll probably schedule a comfort break.

It’s also a good idea to take a bottle of water and a snack to longer lessons — driving can be thirsty work!

What happens if I find the course too intensive?

This can usually be sorted by having a chat with your instructor.

Our team can help you with this, so just give us a call on 0333 123 4949 if you have any questions about your course schedule.

Can I change my course hours?

It's usually possible to upgrade your course with more hours. Please let us know about this as soon as you can by calling 0333 123 4949.

Downgrading of courses is not possible.

What if I don't use all my course hours?

If you end up passing with fewer lessons than you booked, you can use any leftover time for further tuition (motorway tuition, for example).

Unfortunately, as our courses are sold as a complete package, any unused hours are non-refundable.

Can I change transmission?

It’s generally not possible to change transmission, especially if your course has begun.

If you do need to change transmission, your course will be delayed because we’ll need to find a new instructor.

What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?

When arranging your lessons, please ask your instructor about their cancellation policy.

You’ll be required to follow their policy. Typically, you'll need to give a minimum of 24–48 hours’ notice.

What happens if I fall ill during my course?

If you find that you're too ill for your driving lesson, please let your instructor know as soon as possible. Be aware that our instructors have their own cancellation policies, with most requiring 24–48 hours' notice.

I'm having issues with my course — who should I get in contact with?

Your instructor will be able to resolve most issues during lessons, so it’s always best to start by having a quick chat with them.

If you need our help, you can speak to our team by calling 0333 123 4949 and selecting option 2.

Can I postpone my course?

Yes — we can put your course on hold for up to 3 months. If we don’t hear from you for over 3 months, you risk your booking expiring. If this happens then a fee would be payable to reopen your booking.

To have a chat about your options, please call the office on 0333 123 4949 and select option 2.

Practical Test Assist (PTA)

What is Practical Test Assist?

Practical Test Assist is designed to help you find and secure an earlier practical driving test. We actively monitor availability and notify you when suitable slots become available.

How does Practical Test Assist work?

Once you're registered, our system searches for earlier test dates that match your preferences. When a suitable slot becomes available, you'll receive an alert so you can act quickly and book it.

How do I book a test once I find one?

When you receive a notification, follow the link provided and log in to the DVSA booking system using your driving licence number. From there, you can select and confirm your new test date.

How should I search for tests?

We recommend checking regularly and keeping your availability as flexible as possible. The more centres and dates you're open to, the higher your chances of finding a test quickly.

When is the best time to find new test slots?

Mondays are typically the best day for new practical test slots to be released, so we strongly encourage you to stay especially alert at the start of the week.

What should I do when I receive an alert?

Act immediately. Test slots can be taken within minutes, so logging in and booking as soon as you receive a notification gives you the best chance of securing it.

How will I be notified about available tests?

You'll receive alerts through your student portal.

Do I need to enable notifications?

Yes — it's essential that you have notifications switched on for your student portal to ensure you don't miss any opportunities.

Why is it important to stay alert?

Practical test cancellations can appear at any time and are often taken very quickly. Being alert and ready to act immediately significantly improves your chances of securing a test.

Pass Protect

What is Pass Protect?

Pass Protect Lessons is a support package designed to help you stay fully prepared for your next two practical tests. It provides guaranteed lesson coverage in a market where instructor availability is limited.

What's included in Pass Protect Lessons?

  • 4 hours of additional driving lessons in total
  • 2 hours per test (covering your pre-test lesson + test time)
  • ✅ Coverage for your next 2 practical tests
  • ✅ Access to our practical test alert system

How are the 4 hours used?

Your hours are split across your next two test attempts:

  • 1 hour before your test (preparation/warm-up)
  • 1 hour for the test itself

This is repeated for both tests, ensuring you're fully supported each time.

Does this guarantee I'll have an instructor for my test?

Yes — this is a key benefit of the product.
We ensure you will always have an instructor available to cover your test, even in a market where instructors are difficult to secure.

Does this include Practical Test Assist?

No — Pass Protect Lessons includes access to our practical test alert system, not the full Practical Test Assist service.

You will still receive alerts when tests become available, but you must act quickly and book the slot yourself.

How do I use the practical test alerts?

  • 🔔 Keep student portal notifications switched ON
  • 🚨 Act immediately when you receive an alert
  • 👀 Stay alert throughout the day — cancellations can appear anytime
  • 📅 Be particularly active on Mondays, as this is when most new test slots are released

Do I need to find my own test dates?

Yes — you are responsible for booking your test via the DVSA system. We strongly recommend:

  • Staying flexible with locations and dates
  • Logging in quickly when alerted
  • Checking regularly in addition to alerts

Best Way to Get the Most Out of Pass Protect

  • ✅ Turn all notifications ON (student portal)
  • Act fast — slots go within minutes
  • 📅 Prioritise Mondays for new availability
  • 🎯 Use your pre-test hours to focus on test readiness
  • 🚗 Stay consistent with your preparation between tests

Test Booking Strategy

When is the best time of day to book a practical test?

The best time to check and secure a test is between 6am and 11pm, when many cancellations are added back into the system.

To improve your chances:

  • 🔔 Keep student portal notifications ON
  • 🚨 Act immediately when alerted
  • 👀 Stay ready during evening hours
  • 📅 Combine this with Mondays, when new slots are often released

Should I book the earliest test available?

Not always. Your test date should align with your course progress and lesson hours.

Booking a test too early can:

  • ❌ Leave you underprepared
  • ❌ Increase the risk of failing
  • ❌ Delay your overall progress

We recommend:

  • ✅ Speaking with your instructor before booking
  • ✅ Ensuring you have completed enough hours
  • ✅ Only booking when you are confident and test-ready

What's the best approach when booking a test?

  • Stay flexible with dates and locations
  • Use alerts and act quickly
  • Focus on being fully prepared, not just getting the earliest date
  • Use your Pass Protect lessons to maximise readiness

Should I book my test in a random location?

No — we strongly advise against booking your test in a random location.

Booking in an unfamiliar area can:

  • ❌ Reduce your chances of passing
  • ❌ Catch you out with unknown routes and road layouts
  • ❌ Make it harder to prepare effectively

We recommend:

  • ✅ Booking at a test centre you have trained in or are familiar with
  • ✅ Choosing a location your instructor supports and covers

Can I reschedule my test to a different location?

Yes, but you should not reschedule to a random or unfamiliar location.

Before changing your test:

  • ✅ Make sure the new location works with your assigned instructor
  • ✅ Confirm your instructor can cover that test centre
  • ✅ Ensure you have time to practise in that area

Rescheduling without checking can result in:

  • ❌ No instructor available for your test
  • ❌ Lack of preparation in that area
  • ❌ Increased risk of failing

Best Practice for Test Booking

  • 📍 Stick to familiar test centres
  • 🚗 Always check with your instructor before booking or rescheduling
  • ⚡ Avoid rushing into unsuitable locations just to get an earlier test
  • 🎯 Focus on being fully prepared in the right area

Test Booking Rules

Can I book a practical test on behalf of someone else?

No — the DVSA requires that all test bookings are made correctly and with accurate candidate details.

If the DVSA identifies that a booking has been made improperly (for example, on behalf of someone else or using incorrect details), they may:

  • ❌ Cancel the test without notice
  • ❌ Retain the test fee
  • ❌ Refuse entry to the test on the day

What should I do to avoid issues with my booking?

  • ✅ Always use your own correct details when booking
  • ✅ Ensure your licence number and booking reference are accurate
  • ✅ Avoid using third-party or unofficial booking methods
  • ✅ Follow DVSA guidelines at all times
