Arriving at Coventry Theory Test Centre

By public transport

As you’d expect, this theory test centre is very easy to get to by public transport. In fact, it’s only a 5-minute walk away from Coventry train station—winner! For an even speedier arrival you can take the bus. The Queen Victoria Road bus stop is just around the corner from the test centre. So, even if you’re not from the city itself, this test centre could still be your most convenient option.

If you’d like more detailed information on Coventry’s transport links, head on over to the Coventry Council website.

By car

The location of this theory test centre also makes it a doddle to get to by car. If you can catch a lift or pay someone to take you, all they need to do is enter CV1 1ET into a sat nav and hit the road.

From the A4053 (Ringway Queens), join the B4544 and turn off at Greyfriars Road. Once there keep an eye out for a large redbrick building called Warwick Gate—the theory centre is inside on the first floor.

Parking

The drive might have been easy, but finding parking won’t be such a breeze. You see, theory test centre very rarely provide on-site parking. Luckily, you’re in a busy city, so there are a few viable options not too far away.

The City Arcade car park (CV1 3RW) is only 3 minutes down the road. To park here for 2 hours it’ll set you back £2, which is a pretty good deal if you ask us!

Alternatively, you can also try your luck at the Manor House car park (CV1 2EY). It’s 5 minutes distance from the test centre and charges £3 for 2 hours.

Pass Rates by Year

The pass rate at Coventry theory test centre currently sits just below the national average. That being said, we really don’t give much weight to such figures.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20 2020-21 2021-22
48.4% 47.8% 47.8% 45.2% 44.6% 53.7% 52.1%

As an individual learner, you should really just be focusing on what you can do to ensure test day is a success. Pass rates have very little impact on your personal circumstances.

Guides and Tips

The theory test isn’t the kind of exam you can just blag. Sure, half of it is multiple choice, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy! Take it seriously and you reduce the chance of ever having to take it again (which will cost you both time and money!). Learn the information needed and revise it repeatedly in the run up to your test date.

There are plenty of useful resources out there that can make this process easier and, dare we say it, enjoyable! We’ve listed a few below.

In addition to studying the next thing you can do to set yourself up for a triumphant test day is getting plenty of sleep the night before. If Coventry isn’t your hometown, it’s even worth booking into a local hotel to save yourself some time in the morning. Check out some of the lodgings we recommend:

All rooms are decked out with large, comfy beds, WiFi and even a desk where you can squeeze in some last minute revision! If you start to feel peckish, all you need to do is head down to the on-site restaurant and bar.

Britannia Hotel Coventry ★★★☆☆

In terms of prime Coventry locations, you can’t really beat the Britannia Hotel. It is literally smack bang next to Coventry Cathedral! The decor is traditional, the rooms are clean and cosy and, should you fancy a refreshment, there’s a choice of Bentley’s Restaurant or the Bar-Rouge Cafe Bar. Places to Celebrate

Upon leaving the test centre, don’t feel the need to rush off home. You’ve had a demanding day, so why not treat yourself to a drink or bite to eat? We’ve scoured Coventry and found a few tempting options:

Aardvark

Popular with younger crowds, this is a great pub if you don’t mind rubbing shoulders with students and watching live sports while you drink. Expect a chilled atmosphere, friendly punters and plenty of options when it comes to tipple. Rumour has it they also do a banging burger.

Castle Grounds

Slightly cooler than your average joint, this is a charming pub situated in a huge Victorian building. The decor is fairly modern, the regulars are an eclectic mix and drinks are plentiful. There’s even a nice beer garden, so be sure to pop outside if the sun is nice enough to show itself!

The Town Crier

The Town Crier is only 6 minutes up the road from the theory test centre and is definitely worth a look in. Home made food, real ales and a large range of tea and coffee options—this place has something for everyone. If you happen to drop in on a Thursday or Saturday you might even be treated to some live music!
